a short site about The Divine Comedy

The Divine Comedy, Friday at Schubas

For much of his career, Irish-born songwriter Neil Hannon (a.k.a. The Divine Comedy) has specialized in ironic, literate pop songs adorned with the kind of theatrical, music hall flourished and polished crooning that are popular in Europe but often a hard sell in the U.S.. So it was a surprise that the often-lovely new DC record, Regeneration, is a more earnest, introspective, acoustic-oriented effort shimmering with delicate chamber pop arrangements that recall a folkie Radiohead.
