Bad Ambassador

Neil Hannon and his honchos lift a second single from their marvellous 'Regeneration' album. And this is pretty typical of the album as a whole, Hannon having dropped the Noel Coward witticisms in favour of a more mellow, melancholy delivery and Radiohead style backing.

This mid-paced, string-swathed tale of unrequited love finds the man in fine vocal (Scott Walker) and lyrical (sharp as a tack) fettle and while 'Bad Ambassador' isn't as overtly poppy as previous offerings -see 'Becoming More Like Alfie', 'National Express', this is a compelling performance.

7/10
