The Divine Comedy, Friday, Shepherd’s Bush Empire
That is the rock that frontman Neil Hannon must routinely bear: clever, and not afraid to show it, and with the pristine construction of his music in tow, dangerously close to sounding smug. His new album, Regeneration, seeks to redress that balance – the band are dressed down, and the tone hardly exuberant either – and there seems to have been an effort made to search for ingenuousness beyond the traditional moustache-twirling Hannon persona. What ho!
