BBC1 Northern Ireland broadcast a documentary (as part of the ‘Music Asides’ series) about Neil and the years before he was famous. The report was filmed in Londonderry and Enniskillen and shows many important places of Neil’s schoolboy’s days, among which the several places where he lived (in Derry, Enniskillen and Fivemiletown) and the Portora Royal School where he meets his former teacher William McBride. He evokes his very first gig at the Rectory as well as the rehearsals at the Enniskillen airport. An extract of The Marble Arch Caves Opening Ceremony, where Neil sang in 1985 is also shown.
