In 1993, Virgin France, the French branch of Virgin Music which is attached to EMI, started distributing The Divine Comedy in France. Soon after, the discs were released by Labels. The discs produced under Parlophone were still distributed in France by Labels until 2007 (when the label shut down). Labels was also involved in the band’s promotion in France.
Collection maniacs will have noticed that EMI prints PM numbers on their discs. These numbers are there to allow people identify the type of disc as well as its price. This is why in France some discs are identical except for this number, which changes. This can be explained by differing sales prices.
Nowadays French distrbution and promotion are managed by PIAS.
