Something For The Weekend

CD

Image
The first Casanova Companion has an orange design, which means that the title on the cover and the CD are orange. However the details on the sleeve (title on the side, tracklisting and copyrights) are written in black.

Around the centre of the CD is written: C1484 SETCD 26 IFPI L122 MASTERED BY NIMBUS IFPI L122

Some discs came with a sticker showing it features the Father Ted theme music, that was very successful at the time. However the single has the album version of ‘Song Of Love’ and not the actual theme music of the series.

7”

The 7” released for the single is actually a double A-side with ‘Something For The Weekend’, ‘Songs Of Love’ and no B-side. The sleeve uses the CD artwork with the venetian streetlights on the center of the A-side, above which the mention “SET26-7” is added. On the B-side is printed the tracklisting with a light background instead of orange (the colour of the CD). On the side A of the vinyl is written “SET 26-7-A” and on the side B “SET 26-7-B”. The back of the sleeve has also the streelights photo and the credits over an orange background.

White label

Image A white labels test print of the single also exist. It is the same print as the official release. It comes within a generic white sleeve on which the title « Divine Comedy – Something For The Weekend » is handwritten on the top-right corner of one side. We do not know how many copies actually exist.

The cassette of Something For The Weekend features the same tracks as the 7”. The sleeve use also the same artwork elements as the CD, but in another way: the front cover has been rotated 90° with the exception of the title ‘Something For The Weekend’, and the band title is on the left of Neil’s head and not on his right this time. The title on the side and the tracklisting are printed in orange (the colour of the CD) instead of being black as on the CD. The sleeve tells us that the cassette features the 4 songs from the CD while it actually has only ‘Something For The Weekend’ and ‘Songs Of Love’, which is what is printed on the cassette. The cassette looks the same on the 2 sides, and both songs are on both sides which makes the track notation A and B misleading.

Promo CD

Image

Image
The promo CD is a very strange item. It comes in a standard CD single jewelbox and with the single sleeve. So, we have to open the box to see that the CD is actually different. There is no tracklisting printed on the CD, which make the credits mention bigger with the catalogue number and the copyright notice; and the Setanta logo has been moved up.
Some copies were distributed by the promo label The Gas Company with whom Setanta used to work at the time (cf. Setanta Sampler 1995).
The CD features only one track, an exclusive radio edit of ‘Something For The Weekend’ (3:52 instead of 4:19) with a shorter intro.
Around the centre of the CD we can read: C1405 SETPRCD 26 IFPI L122 MASTERED BY NIMBUS IFPI L122

Promo VHS

Image

The VHS features the video of ‘Something For The Weekend’. The video has never been reissued; but it is featured on the band’s youtube channel (although with a fault at 2:14).
