Review and videos of the Cork gig, 2010.

Article about Neil Hannon's speech at the Oxford University, October 2000.
In 2000 another Neil, Neil Hannon of the Divine Comedy, came to talk at my university. When he took questions from the audience, somebody asked him why the band had chosen to re-record The pop singer’s fear of the pollen count as a single for their ‘best of’ compilation. He said they’d thought it ...

I am, even though I'm in my middle fifties, still a fan of Arthur Ransomes inspiring nautical tales of the Swallows & the Amazons.

The thrilling new stage version of Swallows and Amazons, which enchanted West End audiences over Christmas, is in High Wycombe this week, delighting long-time admirers of Arthur Ransome’s celebrated children’s story, which dates back to 1930, and earning new fans for it too.

The Public Reviews » Swallows and Amazons –Belgrade Theatre, Coventry
What a treat it is to find a theatre foyer full of excited children; and what a treat was waiting for them inside the theatre too. Swallows and Amazons was first produced at Bristol Old Vic for Christmas 2010, then revived for Christmas 2011 when it ran for a month at the Vaudeville Theatre in the West End. The production is now in the early stages of a nationwide tour. Based on Arthur Ransome’s children’s novels of the 1930’s and 1940’s, this play takes us back to those idyllic, innocent times when children could be children, and seldom was a thought given to the idea that children out playing in the countryside alone may be in some kind of danger. A time when adventures were there to be enjoyed: and adventures there are aplenty, involving sailing, camping, exploration – and piracy.

Ransome's classic novel brought to the stage
A CHILD'S imagination is a powerful tool, which is shown none more so than in the classic adventure novel by Arthur Ransome, Swallows and Amazons. The story was adapted for the stage by a dream team of creative geniuses and is coming to Wycombe this month. Richard Holt, who plays John Walker, said...

03/02/2012, Review: Swallows and Amazons, Festival Theatre - Theatre - Scotsman.com

Swallows and Amazons could be a tough sell for the Festival Theatre. A week shy of February break for local schools and subject matter that, while family friendly, reeks of another age, means that they’ll be relying on the sentimentality of childhood fans and nostalgic grandparents to put bums on se...
