Besides it being regularly played at concerts, this song is actually the most famous DC song. Why? Because the instrumental part was first the theme music for the Irish sitcom Father Ted.

The song is about… Well, it’s better to give you Neil’s quote, for he says it so well: “A meditation on the strange anomalies of my trade. While most young guns are out there having some fun (crazy ladies keeping them on the run), wise guys like me realize there’s danger in emotional ties, and stay home at nights strumming themselves to sleep.” [1] The rumour about the lyrics being censored (instead of saying “my type hibernates”, it should read “my type masturbates”) has been denied. Indeed, Neil stated he actually just changed from times to times the lyrics live just for fun. [2]

Inside Casanova, the song marks a pause, during which the narrator takes some distance and observes what love means to people now, and most particularly to teenagers.
